11. Admiral Yi Sun-shin Vowing to his Sword

“ When I swear to the mountain the trees answer.

When I swear to the sea the dragons answer.

When I swear to the sky with the sword of suk ja in size

The mountain and the water tremble.

When I once brandish the sword

The mountain and the water are stained with blood.”

                                                         -  Yi Sun-shin  -

The use of hard light on the helmet and the amour is emphasizing the softness of the flesh. The technique of rendering of material, metal and flesh is demonstrated characteristically. The thick relief-like impasto endows the painting the power and

the depth with real animation.

The diagonal tree of the background paralleling with his sword enhanced the composition more monumentally.
