M16  USS Menges and USS Holder

Ex USS Holder DE-401 and USS Menges DE-320 in dry dock at New York Navy Yard

on May 3, 1944. U-371 fired an acoustic torpedo which killed 31 crewmen.

Although seriously damaged, Menges remained afloat.  The destroyer escorts USS Joseph E. Campbell DE 70 

and USS Pride DE 32
