12. The Arrest of Yi Sun-shin
This is the second arrest of the innocent Admiral by the King and Royal court.
The scene is vertically oriented against the evening light in harmony with the great
pictorial orchestration of the figures‘ supremely expressive emotions.
The light falling on the Admiral defines his preeminence and places the figures
firmly on the ground while their shadows endow them with life, emphasizing the grand monumental form.
Another artistic device is to place large figure close to us in the foreground to produce the momentary, contingent character of the action as if we were standing near them and witnessing the event.
