F6. Artist’s Elder Sister Lost Her Only Son
The concept is embodied in a laconic and supremely expressive composition.
This painting is apparent in the interpretation of the human soul that the subject, artist’s elder sister,
lost her only son that would degenerate into a profound desire to die.
Her own shadow follows her in the lugubrious darkness of the scene with the lighting projected
onto the tragic figure of her.
Her pinched face and her mottled skin are those of a very old woman.
Also the dabbed cheeks and the thin mouth suggest the expression of the delicate transparent skin tone
and texture in old age.
Her face accurately reveals mental states on the human face with her mouth tense, her red-rimmed eyes
unfocused in the distance with suffering.
The suffering is also concentrated in her pose and hands which offer external embodiment of her interior
emotion- her right hand fanned and trembling with sorrow on her breast and her clenched left hand with tension
while pulling the end of her breast tie on the edge of table.
She is painted with all the sympathy and understanding of old age and with meticulous care.
