M23B   Port Newark Container Terminal in New Jersey 

The Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT), located in Port Newark, New Jersey occupies 267 acres, handling over 700,000 containers annually. It is one of the largest and most critical industrial ports in the United States.

In this painting, I attempt to capture the sheer scale of the activity occurring here. The seascape is dominated by the massive cargo ship in the center, which towers over the tugboats and seems to reach all the way to the sky. The only object matching it in size is the crane and container storage on the left edge. The earthy tones and clouded sky reflect that the work done at PNCT may not normally be considered picturesque, but I hope that this painting conveys the beauty in this vital node of international trade, where goods are moved at a scale and efficiency that commands respect.
